Dear readers!
On this Christmas morning I'd like to wish you and your loved ones happy and healthy Holidays, and share with you my newest recipe. It is a healthier, vegan variation of a popular drink that was invented in 1926 in Los Angeles by Julius Freed - the Orange Julius. The original recipe included sugar, milk, and egg whites. I changed it a bit and added turmeric, ginger, and some warming spices. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
- juice of 4 oranges
- flesh of 2 oranges
- 4 tangerines
- 1 ripe banana
- 2 inches long fresh turmeric root, chopped
- 1 inch long fresh ginger root, grated
- 1 Tbsp mixed gingerbread spices (cinnamon, cloves, allspice, nutmeg)
- 1 tsp orange zest
- 1/3 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup purified water or freshly made raw almond milk
- 2-3 ice cubes (optional)
Method:
- Toss all the ingredients into a jar of your high speed blender and whiz until smooth and creamy.
- Adjust the taste to your personal liking, pour into elegant glasses and serve right away. Enjoy it in good company!
Tip: A variation of this smoothie could include entire oranges instead of just the orange juice. If you have untreated oranges with the peel safe for human consumption and do not mind the bitterness of the peel, simply chop up the oranges and blend them with a little more nut milk and all the other ingredients. Orange peel has more nutrients than the whole orange. Also, I know that not all raw food lovers are vegans. If you like raw eggs and have an access to farm fresh organic eggs, you can use egg whites or entire eggs in this recipe for an additional nutrition. Simply add one egg per person at the end of the blending process and blend again. This is exactly what I did. Cheers!
Merry Christmas!
In radiant health, passionately raw - Dominique
