Anti-Inflammatory Morning Glow Carrot, Ginger and Celery Juice

To create a juice that can reduce inflammation in your body you have to use ingredients that are well known for their anti-inflammatory properties, like the ones I used today: carrots, celery, ginger, and citrus fruit.

Inflammation is considered to be the root cause of many ailments and chronic diseases but according to Dr. Isaac Eliaz, inflammation is the result of imbalance in body's survival drive. When our fight-or-flight mechanism goes out of whack, it causes inflammation that impacts our health. The good news is that the inflammatory processes in the body can be mitigated by changes in lifestyle and nutrition.

For my Anti-Inflammatory Morning Glow juice I have chosen

  • carrots are high in beta-carotene that is converted in the body to vitamin A; they also contain powerful antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin;
  • ginger contains well researched anti-inflammatory compound such as gingerol and shogaol that are capable of inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines in the body;
  • celery contains anti-inflammatory compound called apigenin that helps reduce pain and discomfort caused by inflammation in the body;
  • lemons and limes contain anti-inflammatory flavonoids in peel, seeds, juice, and fruit pulp;
  • flax seed oil is considered to be one of the richest sources of anti-inflammatory lingans.

Consumption of these foods with anti-inflammatory properties may help you

  • clear your skin from rushes and redness
  • decrease joint pain
  • decrease swelling and muscle pain
  • help with gastrointestinal issues such as pain, bloating, and indigestion.

There are many more ingredients that come with anti-inflammatory properties but this is what I had in my fridge. All ingredients came from bio-dynamic farming.

Ingredients:

  • 8 large carrots
  • 4 celery ribs
  • 1 inch long fresh ginger rhizome, sliced if necessary
  • 1 organic lemon with peel
  • juice of 1 lime (optional)
  • a few drops of cold pressed flax oil

Method:

  • Wash and clean all the ingredients, including lemons. Chop carrots, celery and lemons into manageable chunks. Check the instructions of your juicer's manufacturer to make sure that your tool can handle lemons with the peel on. If this is not the case, juice lemons without the peel, and add the lemon zest to the juicer.
  • Juice all the ingredients and pour the juice into glasses. Add a few drops of flax oil to each glass and mix well. Enjoy in good company!

Tip: You can create variations in taste by simply changing the proportions of used ingredients. Add more ginger, or more lemon, use more celery and less carrots, if you prefer. Also, remember to use the nutrient-rich pulp. You can dehydrate it and use the powder in your raw food recipes, or blend the fresh pulp with nuts and seeds to make delicious raw food crackers in your dehydrator.

I did not use any ice cubes or frozen ingredients. According to TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and Ayurveda, ice-cold drinks extinguish the digestive "fires" in the body thus slowing down the digestion and elimination of toxins. For you to truly glow, you want both functions to be at their best.

For better absorption of the beta-carotene from carrots I add a few drops of the cold pressed organic flax oil. This oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids so necessary for overall health and beauty.
