8 Healthy Easy-to-Make Raw Salad Dressings

One of the most horrifying experiences for me is to watch people eat salads without a dressing. I can virtually see all the fat-soluble vitamins going down the drain. Very often this nutritional "crime" is perpetrated by health and weight conscious people who seem not to understand how the human physiology works.

People fail to understand that fat is absolutely vital to our health. The human brain needs essential fatty acids in order to function properly. The liver and gall bladder cannot perform their function without fat. And yet, people are afraid to come near a bottle of virgin olive oil! Salad dressings are important for our nutrition, but like with everything, the amount and the quality is vital. Your salad does not have to swim in oil. And you never have to buy a commercially made dressing. Not even if the label say it's organic.

For the most basic salad dressing important principle to remember is the 3:1 proportion. This means three parts of oil to one part of acid. By acid I mean vinegar or lemon juice.

You can make dressings that are much more complex, with many different ingredients. Always taste your dressing before you add herbs and spices. You can always add more but you cannot remove anything once the dressing is blended.

Always dress your salad!
